This series pairs ornithological illustrations with dripping paint, gas clouds and molecular diagrams, suggesting a not-so-benign environment. Most of the birds in the series are currently threatened or endangered. The molecules are of common chemical pesticides. Some of these paintings include Hazmat handlers who look exhausted or confused. As a subject, I find birds fascinating because of their simple natural beauty, and also because of the contradictory symbolism associated with them. Often birds serve as omens, as well as suggesting vulnerability and also escape.
