The financial crisis of 2008-2009 was the backdrop for the creation of this group of paintings. I had lost my last semi-regular freelance gig during the spring of '08, and felt like this was as good a time as any to put the art making in high gear. I was happy to let the anxiety of that time percolate into my work, both as a cathartic exercise, and as a point of departure to examine other aspects of a culture in crisis.
